Edition 2025:

Dutch car leasing market continues to grow steadily

Top-10 climbs to nearly 83% market share

Bolstered by the continued high level of activity in our country, the total fleet of the 100 largest car leasing companies grew by 2.9 per cent last year to just under 1.6 million vehicles, according to an analysis of the new Leasing Company Top-100 by market analyst AUMACON. For the record; this figure concerns current lease contracts for cars and delivery vans plus trucks as well as management contracts.

The Top-100 represents almost the entire car leasing sector in our country. The ten largest of them recorded the largest growth. By mid-2025, the ten largest will manage no less than 82.8 per cent of all leasing contracts; as of June 2019 - six years ago - this was only 71.5 per cent for the then top-10.

AUMACON director Clem Dickmann: "The very largest market players are once again strengthening their dominant position. A development that also occurs in other subsectors of the automotive market - such as car dealers. But unlike car dealers, the leasing sector still leaves room for small region-oriented and specialised parties. However, in the leasing sector too, the number of acquisitions has been cautiously increasing in recent years." By comparison, the 10 largest car dealers in the Netherlands have a combined market share of 49 per cent in 2024.

Ayvens firmly in the lead
Market leader Ayvens, an amalgamation of LeasePlan and ALD Automotive, seems to have achieved the global integration of the two merger partners silently. The Netherlands is the 17th country out of a total of 42 countries where the new name replaces the two old names. The new company currently manages some 349 thousand vehicles in the Netherlands, accounting for a domestic market share of around 22 per cent. Without exception, the other Top 10 companies are also seeing steady growth in their fleets.

Derks Lease fastest growing
Every year, AUMACON hands the first copy of the latest Edition to a party that stands out among all the others. This year, that honour went to Derks Lease. This Uden-based company stands out this year for the largest increase in its fleet. Although the company specialising in company cars is small (36th place in the ranking), it offers a wide range of leasing products. In addition, the company has benefited from developments around the expiry of bpm-free vans by the end of 2024.
The award ceremony took place on Monday 13 October at Dauphine in Amsterdam during the National Car Leasing Event and came about with the cooperation of BNR Nieuwsradio.
