Last month - according to figures from data provider RDC - 32,199 new passenger cars were registered compared to 30,849 in September 2024; an increase of 4.4 per cent.
After nine months, the gap with last year has narrowed to 2.9 per cent. Even though Toyota was narrowly the best-selling brand in September, Kia leads the list of most popular brands by far this year with a 10.6% market share. Toyota (7.4%) and Volkswagen (7.3%) are the closest rivals.

11,971 new (fully) electric cars were delivered in September, 3.6% less than a year earlier in the same month. EV sales also fell in August. The market share of EVs stands at 34.7% this year; after 9 months it was 32.4% in 2024.
Sales of diesel cars are slowly rising again; in the first 9 months of this year, 3,515 were sold over the counter, 11.6% more than a year earlier in the same period.
