Last month - according to figures from data provider RDC - 26,663 new passenger cars were registered compared to 27,404 in August 2024; a decline of 2.7 per cent.
After eight months, the gap with last year has increased to 3.8 per cent. In this, Kia leads the list sovereignly with a market share of 10.9 per cent, with numbers 2 (Toyota) and 3 (Volkswagen) following at a great distance; both now have 7.2 per cent market share.
Market analyst AUMACON is still assuming an annual number around last year's year-end figure (381k). ING Bank recently raised its annual forecast to 374k units. Bovag/RAI remain the most pessimistic for now with a forecast of 367 thousand units.

In August, 9,055 new (fully) electric cars were delivered, 3.7% less than a year earlier in the same month. July had previously been the worst EV month of the current year. As a result, the market share of EVs drops slightly to 34.4%; after 8 months, it was 31.5% in 2024.
